Male: Join with Beth Stacey here at the cat show, the beauty pageant with Burmilla cats, which are quite rare as like here. What exactly do they look for in a cat show? This is new, I have never been show.
Female: Well, you very correctly described it as a beauty pageant.
Male: It is like Ms. Universe, but for pussy cats.
Female: Basically, because the cats are judged on how well they meet the standard for their breed. Every breed has a written standard and every judge knows the standards off by heart. So, there is a number of points allocate per head and the team color and the judge will judge the cat according to that. And the one that is absolutely closest in the judge’s mind is going to be the one that wins, at least in that breed.
Male: So, a day for a cat before the pageant is like going to the spa getting your nails done.
Female: Absolutely, it is not exactly a holiday though for the owners because the owners are the ones who have to bathe them and clip the nails and make sure that they meet everything, that this little boy is just eligible to be in the show. He is 4 months and 4 days old and you have to be four months old to be in a cat show.
So, he had his first bath. This is his first big trip out of town. He loves the hotel room. So far, he loves all the people. He does not appear to have a nervous bone in his body. He is happy as can be. He is very unusual for a Burmilla. A Burmilla is a high-breed cat, man-made breed. They were originally came from Chinchilla Persians and European Burmese.
Male: And the fur is almost like Chinchilla. The texture is so soft.
Female: Yes and the beautiful ticking comes from the Chinchilla Persian, but the shape of the body and the head comes from the European Burmese.
Male: So, this makes great house cats?
Female: They make fabulous house cats because they are incredible sociable and if you see the two girls here, they are very full and curious about it.
Male: And markings a very, very exotic.
Female: Very exotic. This little girl over here is a year old and she is –
Male: Only wants to be on a microphone. What will you have to stay?
Female: Yes, his nails are done and he had a beautiful back and he is a sweetheart.
