How to avoid spam Pt. 1
What is you email address? No, I am just kidding, do not give to me. But I will ask you what you would do to stop spam from reaching your email address if anything or what you do defeat spam, curious to know? I got my own little work flow here. I still share my email address freely chris@pirillo.com I have four years. I am not just not kind change it. I know some people change their email address every year and they have an interesting convention, the way they do it. Everybody does things differently.
There are things that you can do especially if you are active online then you do have an email address if that is the case. But if you ever built your own site or how the opportunity to be involve with some kind of site building were your email address may be integrated, some kind a contact information. There are things you want to keep on mind and I got a top five list has submitted by Zackery and this is specifically for web developers, but I think it is good information for everybody out there.
The first thing he recommends is finding a good application, a good program for managing junk email. If you are a mail provider, does good enough job, great. However, there is \always going to be false positives that are going to come through in a bad way that is. I have now taking to using a service site solution as well as desktop solution. I am relaying on Microsoft outlook on the desktop and it is absolutely ghastly.
Thank goodness my server side spam filter does a pretty good job, catches most of the junk before it gets through to my desktop. I am in exchange environment so it is a little different in the average set-up if you using IMAPer or pop three for your email. Either way you have to use something, you have to be comfortable with it, and hopefully, it is good and that is why I asked you at the beginning of this video what do you use.
Number two never give email way in text form, now I am not saying here and I say chris@pirillo.com that is not text. I mean you can write it down you could type it in and then it can be made in the text. But if you can avoid putting it in text and then uploading that to the web somewhere on the web anywhere at webpage anywhere because that is potentially dangerous. That is how this bots will come by those scrip and they will look there is an email address I want to take that going to put in this data base of 60 million email addresses and I am going to turn around and I am going to sell it to someone who wants to spam those email addresses. That is how it works men it is totally a numbers game totally numbers game.
If you can if it is all possible avoid doing that some people taking to just you know writing out the email saying something fancy like chris@symbol.something, something and make secure it.
So, that a human being can figure out what was going on but I am ashamed it would not be able to figure it out atleast machine that was designed to scrape this just easy picking. Some people put their email address in an image which is only the best because now suffer can be written so that it recognizes images and can interpret its OCR, it can be done with an image. Some people have taken note putting their email address atleast a link two or the visibility in a flash file which apparently is less likely to be scraped and spidered and sucked and just abused at any point in the future.
Just keep from your direct linking to it if you can in all possible and if you did put an image still you want to mess it, you do not want anybody do it. So just take that ball and run with it atleast with ease.
