Blu-ray players are fairly new. So you should be very careful on which one you buy because you are going to be spending $5.00 to $600.00 to watch a Blu-ray disk but you can get really annoyed by some of them.
Some of them take almost five minute to just load up a disk, some of them could take 30 seconds and because they are fairly new. If you could wait, I would wait of another year because they are just become better and faster and cheaper. But if your video file that really wants to look at movies in the best possible production possible, then go out and buy one.
I personally recommend the Panasonic’s it load up much faster than the Sony’s. there is no reason to figure out, should I buy an HD DVD player or Blu-ray player anymore because Blu-ray actually won the format and HD DVD is no more.
So you could probably go out on eBay and buy an HD DVD player for probably around 50 bucks and all the HD DVD movies you want but they do not make them anymore so have fun.
The PS3 if you are a gamer, actually has a Blu-ray player built into it. The only disadvantage from a Blu-ray player built into a PlayStation 3 versus a stand alone Blu-ray player is the audio.
The new Blu-ray players actually can produce dolby digital high definition audio. The PlayStation 3 cannot. It has a standard called HDMI1.3 that comes out of the new Blu-ray players which the PlayStation 3 does not.
So, if you really want the best possible 24 bit surround sound high definition audio, stick with the standalone Blu-ray player.
