The difference between Inkjet and Laser, when it comes to photos, you really want Inkjet because you get much more details from Inkjet ink, instead of a Laser, but the price you pay for ink on the Inkjet is a lot higher than the Laser. You can print out thousands of pages on a Laser printer, but you are not going to get the detail that you can would on Inkjet.
When you choose a photo printer, you want to figure out, what size paper you want to print on because there is big cost between in just normal 8.5x11 prints or if you want to jump to the 13x19 prints. So you could spend a $150.00 on a regular Inkjet printer to print photos, but when you want to print large format, you are going to spending for $500.00.
And the last expensive printers will give you anywhere from three to five different colors of inks, for the different shades and colors. The more expensive one ranges up to maybe seven, or 850 colors. To the light like blacks, to the light black, light magentas, to get all the skin tones and the contrast to replicate what you actually to the photo of.
