We are now going to talk about visits to the vet. Visit to the vet. I don't like the veterinarian. They give me needles, keeps me healthy but I still don't like it. It is important to bring here new puppy to the vet, even if he seems perfectly healthy. Your vet is a knowledgeable person, who can keep your pet healthy. If you have not already chosen a family veterinarian, now is the time to find one. Look for a vet who is reputable and is close by. Your veterinarian will check any health problems and in most cases give your pet a vaccination. Health tips. Do not combine water and food with exercise, it can be very dangerous. Make sure you provide proper food, shelter and water for your pet. Keep an eye for sights of illness, excessive panting, difficulty breathing, poor coat, mirky, runny nose or sensitive eyes, smelly or hot dirty ears, yellow or smelly teeth or irritating gums, problems going to the bathroom or lipping. Bedding. Beds offer puppies a sense of security and having a place for it's own, a place to get away when he is tired and in need of quite time. Chances are this will become your puppy's favorite spot in the home, just remember that a bed is a resting place and should be placed in a quiet area of the home, not in a high traffic area. Brushing and combing your pet. Brushing and combing your pet helps your pet keep a healthy coat and reduces odor. Begin with gentle brushing accompanied by lots of praise, should only work up to more brushing as your puppy gets used to it and always be encouraging. Teeth. Puppy toothbrushes come in two types; there more popular kind is the bristle rubber tip that fits over your finger. And the other kind is similar to a human toothbrush. You can buy Pet toothpaste or use a little bit of baking soda on a baby toothbrush. Do not use human toothpaste because it can upset your puppy's tummy. Brushing twice a week should be enough to keep your puppy healthy. Your puppy's nails will need to be trimmed. If you decide to do it yourself, you must learn how to do it properly. Your puppy's nail have a blood vessel called the quick and it runs down the middle of the nail. If you cut the puppy's nail too short, you can cut the quick, then cause your puppy's paw to bleed. In order to stop your puppy's paw from bleeding, apply a safety pin to the nail that you cut too short. If you do not have a safety pin, use a combination of baking soda and water or water and flower and apply to the affected area to stop bleeding. Ears. Some puppies get build up of wax and hair in their ears, which needs to be cleaned out to prevent infection. Spay and neutering. There are many good reasons to spay or neuter your pet. It prevents prostate or testicular cancer in male dogs. It prevents Pyometra, a serious and potentially fatal infection of the uterus. It greatly reduces the rate of breast cancer. It reduces inter-male aggression; it reduces dominant aggression towards people. It reduces urinary marking, it reduces mounting, it reduces roaming and it prevents pregnancies. Pet facts. Pets can keep you healthy. People who have high blood pressure should get a puppy. Doctors have discovered that blood pressure can drop to healthy levels if the patient simply pets a dog or talks to a dog. Pets keep you same, pets not only keep you physically healthy but they can keep mentally healthy as well. Why do cats and dogs fight? Cats and dogs fight because they have strong natural instincts that take them over when they are nervous or fearful. These instincts can tell a pet to protect their territory or defend themselves. When one animal attacks or shows a lot of curiosity, the other becomes defensive and may lash out. Dogs often chase running cats because the sight of the small animal fleeing brings out their hunting instinct. Why do dogs bury bones? In the wild, dogs would have to bury their food where there was a shortage later. So even if your puppy would be fed regularly, your dog may still remember this instinct and bury the food. When training a puppy, it is important to start out really gentle exercises, will provide a great foundation for your puppy's level of obedience. Socialize your puppy to help with training, this means having your puppy come in contact with other humans and animals, so they get used to new situations. Confine your pet to a crate at night because healthy puppies will never mess an area where they sleep. If your puppy does mess in the house, immediately take him or her outside and show them where is the proper place to go. Congratulations! I am completing the theory section of My First Puppy, online training program. This is what happens next. You need to complete My First Puppy quiz.
