Part of the greenhouse network Gardenfork How to compost leaves Hey everyone! Today we are going to learn how make compost. This is a really simple kind of compost. This is called leaf compost, or leaf mold some people call it. But really, what you are do in the fall, and instead of raking up all your leaves, and put them out to the curb there for the guys to come pick up. You use your mulching mower here, and you make leaf mulch. It is really simple, really quick, even I can do it. All right! So first, you got your mower, with your bag on the back of the bag attached on the back here. You got your dog. So let us make some mulch. So you see how that was. I mean let us look over here. So instead of having to rake all this stuff up, you can just run this a couple of times. It breaks down over the winter and it enriches the soil, and so you do not have to rake it up, you are putting the leaves back into the ground, and then we have got our great leaf mulch here. Yes, I might have gone over them too fast. But, go slow, have a sharp blade, and we will make some leaf mulch. I mean even just whole leaves, they will break down. But the more they are cut up, like some of these is cut up nice. So, after doing some mulching here, I realize probably the best way to do is to put the side thrower attachment on your mower, and go back and forth and you are mulching and blowing the leaves, all into a line. In that way, and the last couple of passes, you use the bag attachment and you have got this like double, triple cut up leaves, all in the bag, and you put them in your compositor, and life is good. All right you have got a great thing of mulched up leaves. You can put this on your garden beds. I am going to put some on the raised beds for the winter and we will turn it in or you can put this in our compost wire leaf bin. We are going to go for the wire. Here is one of the wired bins we talked about in the earlier show about how to make a simple compost bin. So we are going to make leaf mold in that or leaf compost, leaf mold, you just take this, and we put it all in here. But this is great. We will just let this break down over the winter and then the spring; it is going to be some great compost for the garden whenever you want. So instead of bagging up your leaves and put them on the curb for the guy to pick them up, make your own leaf compost. All right, very simple. There you go, if you have some mulching ideas come to the greenhouse and tell us, green-house.TV.
