[Music Playing] David: Hi! I am David Epstein and welcome to Growing Wisdom and this time of the year you may have a window box or planters outside of your home. All the summer and spring, flowers are now gone and it is cold outside. You do not like looking at the bare pots. So, what do you want to do, you want to really make them look like mini winter garden so for that I am going to bring in Henry Schmidt from Weston Nurseries and he is going to help us out of bit and Henry tell us about how we create this little garden here. Henry: This is a plastic window box, you could use fiber glass and as you see over here, this is a metal basket. One thing you do not want to use is clay. David: Because it will crack. Henry: Because it will crack. Then you fill it with wet sand, you water it completely because you want moisture in there to keep your greens fresh. David: Terrific. Henry: And then you decide, do you want it one sided, two sided or whatever you want. I am pulling this off rather than cut it because you see these little gaps here? David: Yes. Henry: That will let the moisture in and if you use this which is a leafy material. David: Sure. Henry: You should spray it with Wilt Pruf. [Music Playing] David: Is there any particular greens or can we just do a mixture? Henry: A mixture of all. David: So you can just-- Henry: That is what makes it interesting. [Music Playing] David: And how thick do you want to make this? Henry: It depends on you. The thicker it is of course when the snow hits it, the more it is going to hold together. Now, when you are choosing pine, take a look, each pine can be a little bit different in color. David: And you definitely have all these different shades of green, yellowy greens, and bluish greens, and darker greens, and that really does add just a wonderful texture. Could you put lights on this? Henry: You could, you can get twinkling lights that run on a battery. David: I grabbed to bow here so we could put that in, a nice burgundy bowl. Henry: The bow in here can be attached here at the bottom or you can put it on a pick and sit it up in there. [Music Playing] Henry: Grab your needles, give it a little bit of twist to loosen it up then I just go in with the clipper to nip off where I have snipped and you have a little flower. David: Could you put these in the front if there was a front and a back to this? Henry: You could or again you can wire them up here. David: I really appreciate you taking the time to show us these two wonderful ways in which we can add green to our homes all season long. We hope you come back every week for all of our videos here at GrowingWisdom.com. [Music Playing]
