Eric Rochow: Hey, Everyone, I am Eric Rochow, and this is Real World Green. And I am here to tell you answering machines are not green, and you are like, why it's that? Well, here is why, first of all answering machines are made from plastic, they have some electronics in them, and they only last, it seems to me at least about a year. Useless thing, it dies, you can't really take it apart. So what you do, you throw it out, and you go buy another one. So there is a whole bunch of broken answer machine in a landfill, and you keep on buying new ones. These are made out of plastics, which are from petroleum, where we are trying to reduce our use of petroleum, and all these answer machines are powered by these little power supplies, and these are what we call those vampire plugs. In other words this thing runs 24 hours a day, whether you need it or not. So it burns up electricity, gives off heat. It's a bad thing. So here is what you do. Get rid of this, and sign up for voice mail with your phone provider. My phone provider, I get voice mails that are emailed to me, which I think is really cool. So get rid of this, sign up your voice mail, and be green. Alright? Come to the green house tell me what you think, it's our viewer forum, people there hang out and talk about do it yourself stuff, cooking and gardening, green issues. green-house.tv, I would like to see there.
