Now, I get a lot of moans from my wife when she cannot find the cling film in the kitchen. It is because I got it in the greenhouse. And it is a great tip if you need a cucumber, why on earth you pick a whole cucumber when you may only need half. What you should be doing is cutting what you need from the cucumber and use a cling film and elastic band to keep you the half safe and sealed on the plant. It will actually stay a lot firmer for a lot longer and it will do back in the frig. Now, it is a sunny day today, it is the middle of summer, but it is not long before the weather is going to start to change and when we get towards winter time, you are going to think about protecting your plant. You may have a greenhouse, you may not want to spend a lot of money or hate in the greenhouse, but there is something you can do to really stop the heating bills from rocketing and that is to keep the temperature a bit higher by using bubble wrap. Now, I know, you probably got loads of bubble wrap and puzzles of packages throughout the year. So use it, just use some tape to put it onto the glass in the greenhouse, it really reduces those heating bills. Also, it is great for putting around tubs and containers, maybe plant in the potting in not sure whether they go to be protected enough for the winter and be on the safe side. Put some bubble wrap around the container, especially pots. You already seen my outdoor tomatoes looking brilliant of course and the indoor winds in the greenhouse are looking great too. But I get very impatient. I am a very impatient gardener. I like things to get on with it quickly to ripen quickly. And of course tomato will just ripe at their own leisurely phase. But you can give them a bit of a lift by using a banana. Hanging bananas amongst your green tomatoes will certainly get the ripping a lot quicker and when the banana gives of ethylene, which is the gas that ripens fruit and it also ripens the tomatoes as well that is a great tip. And when you are side shooting your tomatoes, do not waste the side shoots. Actually, pop them up into three-inch pots a sandy compost and you will be amazed to how quickly they root to provide free plants. Okay, they will fruit a bit later on where you have green tomato and wild away those evenings in making some for your friends and family. Now, also when you are watering plants in the garden, remember, they do not like a cold bath. It gives a bit of a shock, so if you are going to water in the evening, put water in can full of water in the greenhouse all day long and this is actually quite nice. So give your plants a warm evening bath, not a cold shock.
