Gord: One of the most under utilized plants I think in either a hanging basket or just containers is the coleus. So, we brought in Rob Wine from Clarvy Water Cultural. Hi Rob, how is it going? Rob: Hey Gord, it is going good. Thanks. Gord: Now, you guys grow coleus as well and there are hundreds of different leaf structures, can we go over sort of how to grow them and what is unique about them? Rob: Sure, yes. I think the real cool thing about coleus and other foliage plants is there instant impact? Gord: Yes. Rob: What you see is what you get. Whereas a lot of times a flowering plant here, you are waiting for it to open in the bloom falls off and you wait for another one to come, Gord: (Laughing) Rob: But, in coleus are very, very versatile. Especially newer varieties that are actually produced from cutting zero variety we have done from seeds, Gord: Yes, Rob: And, we pretty much had to go them in the shade. But, the newer varieties, they will take a lot more cold than the older varieties as well and they will also take like full sun. Occasions in, Gord: And, that is good because, I remember Michael is coming to fall. They sort of look (Blind---) and they would just, I love them when they were there but, they were not really, there is no long germiting. Rob: Yes, no exactly. But, these was stand up really well on the garden and, you can use them, Planted seedling, containers like this in the garden or in mix containers so we got in the mix pot here, Gord: Yes, well, let us touch on that. What is a good companion plant for coleus? And where should you put in and how should be growing? Rob: Well, that is the beauty of it because it will take almost full shade right at the full sun, (Laughing) You can plant them with almost anything. Now, keep in that the most varieties are going to mature. I would add up to 2 feet, Gord: Right, Rob: Some rise will actually trail a bit like there is one called Trailing Plum, which is actually do not have on display here. But, you can stick in the hang basket, it will grow the side. Gord: So, in this one here, you have got a fuchsia. It looks like you have got (Voice Overlap) Gord and Rob: And a Verbena. Rob: Yes, in this particular fuchsia is one of the few that are actual thrived in the sun. That is curtain mister bonstat, This one would do really won the sun and I have look at here, looks good together. Gord: It does, actually, I like the dark veins on the curtain mister and the, Rob: Well, that is a nice thing about the coleus because there is so many different types. You can like this molten lava, totally different color. And, complimented, actually it seem bright in this hanging basket and it just complements the blues and the yellows and, It is really nice. They will define colors like that. You just kept on most annuals. Gord: Well, this is really nice, very colorful. Thanks a lot Rob. Rob: My pleasure.
