Sarah: Welcome you to Calorie Minute brought to you by diet.com. I am Sarah, your host and I am with Stephen Cabral, Body Transformation Expert. Today, Steven is going to share with you the top three weight loss tips for people starting out on a diet or if you are just trying to fine tune the program that you are already on. So Steven, top three weight loss tips, what are they? Steven: The first one is nutrition, second one is exercise and the last one is the lifestyle. You need all three to be successful, not just one of the three. Sarah: Okay, so when said nutrition, what exactly -- obviously we know we have to eat right -- but what should we avoid? Steven: Well, it goes much beyond just eliminating sugar. So a lot of people know to eliminate sugar and if you do that, you are already ahead of the game because a lot of people just are up and down with their sugar levels all day long. So after we have, kind of, regulated that, eliminated sugar from the diet, we need to work on eliminating processed foods. Sarah: So what's an example of the product that somebody might be eating that they think it's helping them lose weight but it's actually hindering their efforts? Steven: Well, a classic one is rice cakes, there is really nothing to them, they are like air. It’s really just like putting processed sugar into your body because even though you are only getting, maybe 10 carbohydrates in them, there is hardly any nutrients in there whatsoever. So you are not getting the benefits of actually increasing energy within your own body. Then in the long run, it's just going to spike those sugar levels, make you hungry in another hour, two hours, or so. People say they are getting hungry from eating rice cakes is a big reason, why. Sarah: Number 2, Exercise. Steven: Exercise; so a lot of people just -- alright New Year’s resolution, weight loss programs they are going to hoops on a treadmill, or want to take a little bike, whatever might be just to burn a lot of calories. That's fine in the short term, you are going to burn calories, you might even loss a couple of pounds in first couple of weeks but what happens is people don't look at long term weight maintenance. That means we need to do something to get the metabolism up. So until we start increasing the body mounts or doing exercises that don't just burn calories while you are in the gym or your home workout, it's about building that metabolism through certain types of exercises that increase lean body mass but also get the whole body moving. So that after you have finished your workout, you are still burning calories through the rest of the day. It keeps your metabolism up, that's a big part of it. Sarah: We also have many videos that “we will do this for you, the 4 minute workout, 500 calories burning”, all that stuff. Now you go and check it out. Number 3, lifestyle. Steven; Lifestyle; so this is a major component right here. This is what really determines, whether you are going to be successful or not. So anyone can get into a program and really be determined and stick with it for 2-3 weeks, but it's those people that can make it somehow manageable within their own lifestyle and has to customize to your own lifestyle. If you can live with it, stick with the plan and make it a routine for at least 21-30 days, the likelihood of you succeeding is far greater. Sarah: So you are saying, not to be on a fat diet. Steven: No fat diets, not here. Sarah: Clearly because as you guys all know, it's not realistic, you are not going to actually be able to eat only great fruit or cabbage for the rest of your life. So take something that is realistic. Hopefully, you guys learned a tip or two from this video and for more information on how to stick to your New Year's resolution or any weight loss schools, check out the DietHealth channel and all our videos.
