Learn how to make an eight pointed star from eight squares. This is sometimes called a "the sun and moon" origami or "star and moon" origami because it starts out as a ring and you have to transform it into a star. This is one of my all time favorite folds.

Here I will show you how to make an eight-pointed star. To start, you are going to need eight square sheets. I like to use two different colors. Fold the square in half to make a triangle. Crease and then unfold. Now, fold it in half to make a triangle the other way. Crease and then unfold. Now we will fold it in half; this time forming a rectangle. Crease and unfold again. Now we are going to fold the corners in towards the middle crease. It is kind of like we are making an airplane. Now fold the sheet in half again along that middle crease. Hold it by the point in one hand and with the other hand, poke down the back. You should have this fancy parallelogram looking thing with a split tail at one end. You are going to need to do this seven more times. This fold is fairly easy but it does take a while to make because you have to do everything eight times. [Music Playing] Once you have your eight pieces, you are going to have to assemble them. Just to clarify, this is what I am calling the split tail. Place the closed point of one piece into the split tail. Take the ends of the split tail that stick out from the first piece and fold them into the split tail of the second piece. And continue this procedure with the next piece. [Demo] Now, I know what you are thinking. Josie, this thing does not look nothing like a star. And to that I would say patience grow out, patience. [Demo] You have to do a little bit angling when you get to this last piece here. I am going to have to tuck the flaps of this white piece into the blue piece just like we have been doing. But you will notice there is already a piece in there; careful not to tuck these flaps over the point of the piece that is already in there. It makes it a little easier if you fold over and then pull back and try to slide that folded piece in. Now, for this fold called the moon and star fold. Here you have a full moon. Then start gently pushing the sides in. First time you try to slide these pieces, they might resist just a little bit. And there is your eight-pointed star crossover.
