Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green. Today we are in the basement to talk about how to save money with your hot water heater. There are two pronged method here I have for doing this. First, we are going to insulate the outgoing hot water pipe coming off your hot water heater and then that's going to allow us to turn the thermostat down on the hot water heater itself. Here is how it works. You get pipe insulation material from your home improvement or hardware store. It easily slips on to the pipes coming out of your hot water heater, it's the pipes that are hot out, instead of the pipe that's cold. Then you are going to insulate through your whole basement these hot water pipes and anywhere else the pipes are exposed and you can get to them and then after you insulate all the pipes, we can turn the thermostat down on the hot water heater itself. Because we are not losing near as much of the heat as the pipe, as the water travels through the pipes to your dishwasher or your shower or whatever. That allows us to turn the thermostat down on the hot water heater. So we save energy and we will be more green. It reduces the amount of carbon going out of the smokestack or the electricity used and what's not to like? It's going to make your energy bill go down and you are still going to have the same hot water. So what do you think? Come to the green house, green-house.tv for more cool green tips and cool green people like me. Alright, make it a great day. I will see you later.
