You have just learned that your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, what can you do now? While there is no cure for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also known as ADHD, many of its symptoms – inattention, impatience, and the inability to focus can be diminished. Doctors can prescribe several different medications for children with ADHD. Surprisingly, stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall help calm ADHD sufferers by increasing the activity of the nervous system and improving focus. Non-stimulants such as Strattera can have similar results with fewer side effects. In some cases, a doctor may also prescribe antidepressants. The effect of each medication will vary from child to child, so your doctor may try several combinations or dosages before finding the right course of treatments.
