Hi, I am Ann and I am here to talk about local moving. Be clear with the mover about what are your expectations are, about the time frame and the calendar, and the schedule that you need to maintain. Go over the rates. Negotiate where you can.
Assuming that you will be labeling the boxes, make sure that you have a master list and that you know, which boxes are going where. Perhaps color code them so that the movers will know that Bobby’s boxes going into blue room. Do you need storage? Find out if the mover can provide some.
Find out the size of the trucks and how many workers. It is dismaying to be expecting a fleet of trucks and have one show up with one guy driving. Talk to your insurance man and make sure your insurance broker and make sure that you know what the insurance is. If possible take a video recording of everything in the house well before moving. On moving day, have a survival kit ready and make especial plans for pets and kids, because moving can be stressful, but with good planning all should go smoothly.
