[Music playing] Today, I am going to introduce you to strawberries. Strawberries make an amazing ground cover. I am going to take this 25-foot area here and cover that with strawberries. Now, the best place to plant strawberries is on a slope. Right here on my orchard is perfect fro that. I am going to plant three different varieties of strawberries. The first bears fruit early in the summer; the second bears fruit late in the summer; and the third bears fruit all season long. Before I plant my strawberries, I got some prep work to do. Before you plant anything in your garden, you want to make sure that it is weed-free. Double fist in. You want to make sure that when you pull the weeds that you are taking them up from the root. I am placing these papers here, so that once the strawberries take over, I am not going to trample on the precious fruit. Now, it is time for the fun part and that is placing my strawberry plants. You want to make sure that when you are planting your strawberry plant, they are planted at least 18 inches apart from each other. So, what I like doing is placing my plants first that way I can make sure that they are exactly where I want them. Strawberries are vigorous producers for the first two to three years. So, you want to make sure that you plant new plants on a yearly basis. In that way, you will have a great harvest year after year. My friend Alex, who I grew up with in high school, she actually grew up right across the street from strawberry fields in New York City, right in Central Park and that is always teeming with people because it is right near where John Lennon live and Yoko Ono still lives in the Dakota. So as I am planting my strawberries, I am thinking of Alex. She is also a filmmaker. I am going to give these strawberries a good drink of water.
