Female 1: But first to the streets, to see what people have to say about their proms. Male 2: Girlfriend kind of get mad at me for dancing with someone else. Female 2: Oh, my shoes. They are like red platform sugar shoes and I was 15 and I do not know why I was allowed to wear them. Male 3: I am from England. Female 1: No prom in England? Male 4: I was not asked. Female 1: Do you have any advice for any kids who are getting ready to go to a prom? Female 3: Save your money because it is expensive. Male 2: Do not go on a limo. It is not cool to go on a limo, hybrid only. Female 4: It is not as important as you think it is. Female 1: Would your recommend a girl wear this dress to prom? Male 5: I mean. Female 5: It is very lovely but not. Female 1: That made me sad. Then, I remembered Julian wrote in asking on how to take a dress from 1980 and make it for 2008. So, I am going to take this old ladies dress and turn it to something ready to wear for prom in this decade. Okay, first it is very important to study your garment. Then, come up with the plan as to what you want to do. After that, you can start the deconstruction. Cut off the sleeves and skirt and cut out the old boning. Next, iron some of the fabric that you got from the skirt. Turn it wrong side up and trace a corset pattern connecting the front so we will lace up in the back. Cut it out making sure you are leaving an inch for sleeve allowance. Repeat for a second piece, then lay the pieces right side together so and turn it right side out. Then iron it flat and iron the gap closed. Sew a top stitch all the way around then pin and so the boning it in on inside of the garment. Cut two strips of fabric, place over the boning, and sow down both sides. Try it on inside out and pinch pin and sow darts for a better fit. Then turn it right side out. Now, measuring the custom material for your skirt, make pleats all the way around the top, sow them together, fold and iron the seam, and sow it down. Then pin it to the bottom of buttons and skirt together. Now, time for grommets, simply mark where you want them and insert them. Next, stock all the layers of tool on top of each other, pin in so parallel seams using a zigzag stitch then feed elastic through the casing. and trim down your tutu. Take out those old sleeves you cut off in the beginning, sew the ends together and you have a super classy look for prom. There is no shortage of funny 80s dresses out there but we did find some super cool once on eBay that depending on to your taste, you need a little to no alterations and for a good deal too. Some of our favorites comes from our eBay seller Kuku Vintage with here simple but out spoken style. But, what would be an DIY prom show be without mentioning Andy’s great fashion prom dress from Pretty and Pink. Hey, do not go anywhere we will be right back with more prom fabulousness. Stick around. (Commercial break) Male 1: This is your wardrobe. This is your wardrobe on Thread Banger. Female 1: Any questions? Male 1: Alright, so do not worry we did not forget about all you guys out there going to prom. This week we are going to show you how to make a quick and easy bow tie. Alright, the first thing that you are going to need is at least one yard of fabric. We are going to use this old scarf in the fair store. Download the pattern from the Thread Banger blog and cut it out from a large sheet of paper. Now, place your pattern on top of your scarf, pin it down, and cut it out. Once you have cut out the pattern ones, pin the pattern down again, and cut out another one. Now, lay your pieces on top of one another, pin, and sow it together making sure to leave a small one to two inch gap in the very middle. Next, grab something like a pencil or a paint brush to turn your bow tie right side out. Alright, now you are going to grab a couple of old ties and carefully removing the inner facing from the middle. Lay them down on top of one another, roughly the length of your bow tie and pin them on the middle. Go ahead and lay your bow tie on top, check the length, then sow your two pieces of your interfacing together and cut off the extra pieces. Lay your bow tie back down on the interface, pin it down, and cut it out. Now, insert your little interfacing to that little gap you left open with the little gap you left open with a pencil or a paintbrush and work it in until it lays flat. Lastly, sow up your gap, ran an iron over it and you are all set. Now, if you do not know how to tie a bow tie, that is a whole another how to.
