Welcome to watchmojo.com. I am Leslie and these are my co-stars, Luca and Palmer. Our loyal Mojo audience will recognize Palmer, although he has had his summer haircut.
Speaking of summer, today we are going to talk about preparing doggies for summer. Okay, now you have dogs and it is summer time. What are things that you need to be aware of?
First things first, dogs and heartworm. It is very important to take your dog to the vet on a regular basis, especially in summer because around this time, spring summer, your doctor would probably tell you to have your dog take some sort of heartworm medication. It is preventative. It is too make sure that nothing happens to them over the summer.
Something like Sentinel, for example, is a good brand and it is a good product that you give your dogs a few times during the summer. You give it to them once a month, that is it, and it protects him. You mix it with their food.
Now, what is important, why I say it is important to talk to your vet, it is because there are different sizes of Sentinels for different dogs. Another thing that is important is, you need to keep in mind your dog’s coat. Now, it is not necessarily good to shave a dog down. For example, you will notice Palmer here, still has some good length to his fur because he is always supposed to have a certain amount fur to protective him. Having said, it is important for him to have a summer haircut because if you remember him from the last segment, he had very, very long hair and I do not think you would like to be walking around with the fur coat in the summer.
So, what is important to do to prepare your dog for summer? Take him to the groomer, get him a haircut, that is number one and number two, go see your veterinarian and ask about heartworm medication. Number three, you may want to do something about fleas. There are variety of flea products. Sometimes your vet will give you a little bit of cream to put behind at the dog’s ears and other times they will give you something that is orally ingested. Some vets also would give you a specific type of color, but like I said, just talk to your veterinarian and make that decision on your own.
