I have a quick quiz for you guys. I want you to tell me which method is better for putting my email address. Let us say I want to put on MySpace page or on my website should I put JimmyRuska@gmail.com or should I put “JimmyRuska [at] gmail (dot) com.” The next one is called the email obfuscation. It is intended to stops Spanish from capturing your email automatically. There is a whole bunch of bots that are just calling websites and they pick up email addresses. Put them in spam ways.
So which one is better this method or this method? Well actually neither is better. You should put your email address and then image that prevents it from being parse it all. But between the two it is actually better with this method because I know a lot of you like what it is definitely easier for them to capture this type. But with email obfuscation allows Spanish to use Google and I will give you an exemplary. Let us say I am searching for Yahoo emails. I will say anything @yahoo.com.
Quickly I get a whole bunch of gibberish. I get yahoo domains and it becomes a parent that the @ modifier is just completely ignored. It does not do hardly anything. It serves the same purpose at searching dot, dot, and dot. It is just nothing. So I cannot find the yahoo addresses but what if I use the obfuscation method. If I say, by the way asterisk it means anything, any word. If I say, asterisk at yahoo dot com. It will give me tons of emails trying to hide there yahoo address. It is kind of paradoxical but trying to hide your email address from spam, it is actually helps them find it.
So email obfuscation is questionably where is the worst part about email obfuscation is I can say anything at any server yahoo hotmail. It does not matter at anything. It does not matter it is dot IN, dot UK, dot MX. Any country, it does not matter. Just give me all kinds of emails and let us say I am marketing your product that has MySpace layouts. I am marketing your MySpace layout site and I am just capturing a bunch of emails from people that use MySpace. I can say site:MySpace.com and it will just give me profiles in MySpace that give away there email address. So I can quickly make bot that part of this and it does not really matter if you use a little whatever things. The parenthesis or this little brackets because when searching once spam is search for Google ignores this marks and if they make a regular expression thing that basically just grabs the text.
This will also be removed so it does not help you any to put this type of format. You can put all the lines you want in between but spammers will automatically just grab the text and convert it to an email address. They can be targeted which is very important in advertising. The second quick quiz that I want to give you is which is better you get a spam email. You get spam do you delete it or go to the bottom of the email and find an Opt-out link which is one is better?
Well considering they probably got your email illegally using the method describes that I just described either using Google or just crawling random sites. It is probably better just to delete it do not Opt-out because a lot of spammers uses buttons just to say that your email address is active. They send a lot of email addresses that emails that are no longer in use or dead. So clicking the Opt-out link it just confirms that you saw there email. You opened it up. You scrolled to the bottom so they probably might take you out there Opt. there list but they will put you in another one or many more. Because they know your email address is active.
Those are just two basic things to know that will help keep you away from spammers a little bit more. Anyway thanks for listening to this video tutorial. I hope you enjoy it.
