How to Prune an Apple Tree Part 3/3
Okay film 3 of the 3, about a 15 year old 00:00:03 rosette on early days of prune. You can see I’ve really got a wide open spacing there. We’ve got four main branches coming out at about 18 inches to two 2 above the ground. There’s lot of fruit buds that I’ve cut out quite a lots amount of wood really probably 20% of the tree, something like that. It’s still about 90% of the fruit bulbs that there were. So I have gone to some trouble to spare them, for lots of fruit bud but the fruit buds now are moved widely spaced.
I think you look at some of the videos that I put out earlier. It’s about the need to fin the fruit. This sort of pruning essentially is doing some fanning before hand. That’s why I’ve been looking after these trees for 15 years or so. I know how much were fruit that capable of bearing and I know what the optimum is so I’m doing some pruning to displace a fruit out now as I’ve said 00:01:13 if a tree is a capable of bearing 400 small fruit, the tree will be much, much better of bearing 150 decent sized fruit, not any will be more worth of having but it will exhaust the tree less. I’ll see if I come back to this tree in blossom time and harvest just to let you know how it goes.
