Hi, I’m Les from Stress Less Audio Video and today we’re going through how to properly hook and setup a high definition DVR to the TV. We’ve done some things already, we hooked it up, we set up the parental controls, showed you how to do the connections and al that. What we’re going t do right now is actually going to the actual DVR functions. There’s a couple of things you might want to check before we go in DVR functions. If you go into the menu section, just double check to see if there’s actually a section for DVR. As you can see, this one has one. As you can see, this is for skip. What we’re using right now by the way is a Verizon fios box and what this is and when you press the skip button on your remote, how far in advance it skips. So what we’re going to do instead of five minutes, which is way too long, we’re going to set it for 10 seconds because that’s probably enough time. Actually, we’ll set it for 30 seconds and then the same thing for replay.
So when you’re watching basketball sports, this really comes in handy when you just want to see that great shot, that great play, that great move the player did so that’s really cool to have. There’s also serious options but we don’t really do that much in here. You can d this when you actually set up a court recording. What series options are some DVR’s call them season passes, series and there’s a lot of different words for me. It basically means multiple recordings of the same show r series. So if Seinfeld comes on everyday at 8 o’clock or every week at 8 o’clock, it will record Seinfeld and you're telling if the parameters or which you wanted to do within that recording of that Seinfeld series.
So, there’s a couple f things in here where as you could see it's as first runs and repeats only. If you have a show that you’re recording and have this indication, this could become really useful for you because if you want to record the new shows and you’re recording something like Scrubs. Well there is—Scrubs have been on for years or Simpson’s. Simpson’s has been on for—I don’t even remember how long. Well, if you have it on first runs and repeats, it's going to record every episode of Simpson’s you can find all the way back to 1999 or 1989 or whatever the show started. So if you really want first recordings when you’re doing this, you want to put this down to the first run only. It's only going to record new episodes. If you want get to record every time it finds the show like for me, I don’t care what dates on the Scrubs if I don’t have it on my DVR I want to record. So for me, I always give it on first one and repeats. Episodes to keep are basically, when it’s recording a series, how many of those shows you wanted to keep before deletes. So, as you can see, there’s a lot of different episodes here. If you only wanted to keep one episode or something you’re not really interested in, that’s fine. Most DVR’s come to fall at five. I put mine on all just because I want every episode until I’d say not to record it, we’ll leave it at five for now.
And then there’s also this auto delete. So, stuff that you tell your DVR record, do you want it to delete it when you tell it to delete it or delete the old stuff as new things are coming on and it needs space. So we can leave that on right where it's at so we’re exit out here and we’re going to set up a couple of season passes and show you how to actually record on this thing.
First thing we’re going do is go to the guide. Well, the way a DVR works, it's basically like a VCR without the tape there. So, if we want to record something that comes on this evening say, you know like I’m going to be gone this evening and I know there’s a game coming on. That game starts at 7 o’clock. So I’m going to say, record. Now, this program is scheduled to record. It's going to start on time. It's going to end on time. So now, we’re good. That set the record, we’re good. We can just exit this and we should be fine.
Now, there’s other things you can do. Sports, and you know I just pressed record and I was done but if you want to record something like this show that’s playing right now, you could do record once and it’ll say after it, it’ll process for a second. It takes a couple of seconds. What it's doing now, if you’re telling that I want to record the show or what if you want to record the show every time, you really like this guy shoot on the show and every time it comes on, you want to record this so you can have all his recipes. Well you can come in again and what you’ll have now is an option to record this series. If you select that, what’s going to happen is it's going to record the show every time it comes on and as you can see the icon changed from record just a little button to a photo which means it's actually making a file on the DVR to put every single show in there. That’s pretty much how you record something on here. if your actually going to your DVR, it's going to the DVR. So what we have now, you can create recording here, if you don’t know when something comes on, you can find the showing guide, you can search for a show, I don’t know what channel and something comes on but like Scrubs. See, you don’t know what channel comes on. As you can see, it's my favorite show, Scrubs. There—scrubs. So these are all the episodes of Scrubs that are coming on and I’ll tell you the various times and channels and I can record any one of them just by pressing record. I can record the whole series. I can do any of that so that’s basically how you use this functional right here.
And also, you’ve got the series manager, sure to have things that are series like right American Idol, Brothers and Sisters, Oprah you can actually go in and modify the series change of priority. But the changing the priorities is actually a pretty good feature. If you have shows that come on a different time, sometimes they conflict with each others by setting the priority level, you're telling that DVR, which one of your shows you want to have like I said, the priority. So right now, American Idol is number one so if there’s anything else on American Idol that’s coming on, it's going to record American Idol, it doesn’t care about your other shows. Brothers and Sisters, Oprah and then Tyra is on which I try just put on there. So there is Tyra say, we don want it. We want to cancel this series, I can cancel that series right here, bang! This is all we got in the DVR menu. Also, this is recorded programs, which is every show that’s already been recorded on here. You can watch them from here. You can delete them from here so pretty useful stuff. If you look at this, this is your view schedule. If you’re planning on recording something else, you’ll notice on to today which is Thursday, I have two shows recording it. The one starts at seven, one starts at 8 o’clock. But if you think about, that basketball game is actually three hours long. The reason it’s going to still record American Idol is because even though you’ve gt one connector hoked up to this, there’s actually two tuners in there. So it allows you the option and the ability to record two different shows at the same exact time and record both of those shows. So that’s a pretty god feature and most DVR’s have that, actually of them now. So that’s what that’s for, it if you look at Sunday, that’s the next thing that’s coming on. There’s not a lot f thing on here but you can continue to add. Now, if I try to add a third show within that time frame of seven and whatever time the NBA game comes on or ends I should say and the American Idol, whenever that ends. If I try to have a third show, it would not allow me to because both tuners are already being used.
So think of this as actually two cable boxes in one with a hard drive, which is built in VCR. So that’s pretty much it. This recorder status tells you how many minutes you actually have being used. How much of it is high definition and how much your DVR is actually full. That’s pretty much it. The same settings I showed you in the menu for the DVR function, you’ll notice their in here also under the DVR itself so you don’t have to go to the menu structure t get that.
