How to recycle your Christmas tree Hi everyone! I am Eric Rochow and Real World Green. Happy post Christmas, Happy New Year, all that kind of thing to you. So we are done with Christmas. What are we going to do with this guy? This is our evergreen tree, which I told last week was okay to cut down and have a regular tree. But now, what are we going to do with this guy? Well rule number one is do not throw it in the trash. There is a number of ways that we can recycle the tree. We can reuse it for other stuff. A lot of cities, a lot of towns around the United States now offer tree composting or tree chipping. If you take your tree to the park, they will chip it up for you and you can get a bagful of the greens you use as mulch somewhere or the parks will use it in their areas and green the place up. Second, you could take this and chop it up yourself. Put it in your own compost pot. You have to get it quite small or you can just cut it up and you can lay it around in your planting area so it will break down. Or what we do up in the country, we take our Christmas tree and we lay it against the fence line. And we have a row of them now, and it becomes a habitat for small animals. It is kind of like a little rabbit warren if you will because these things take a while to break down. They provide a shelter, little escape path for when they are being chased by coyote or something. You know what I mean. So a couple of ways here. Come to our site, www.realworldgreen.com for some links and stuff. Put it in your backyard, chop it up, or lay it against the fence for a little mammal paradise perhaps. All right, make it a great day, I will see you.
