Hi! I am Dr. Lauren at petside.com. A lot of long hair dogs and cats can get matted fur. You definitely want to get rid of those mats because they are uncomfortable to your pet and the skin underneath can get infected. I am going to show you a safe way to remove the mats from your pet's hair. If you have a pet with long hair, it's important to brush regularly. Brushing their hair will help prevent mats. If a mat does occur, it typically looks like a little knot. It's very important not to use scissors to remove mats because it's almost impossible to tell where the mat ends and the skin begins and often times, you could end up cutting your pet's skin. What you should do is if you have a long haired pet; just make sure to have a pair of clippers on hand because this is the safest way to remove mats. And all you have to do is take the mat, pull it gently away from your pet's skin and then you can just cut the mat out at the base and it comes out very easily. This is definitely the safest way to remove mats from your pet's hair. I am Dr. Lauren at petside.com. If you have any questions, feel free to email to me at Drlauren@petside.com.
