Hi! We are here on with a few tips on window replacement. As you can see, we have a beautiful cottage here on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, Mermaid cottage actually. And when you are replacing a window on a house like this or any house to be honest with you, there are just about three basic things before you run into problems. If you can keep it basic that is the way to go. But here for instance with replacing this window you are talking about peeling back shingles to get to the shielding and then cutting around it and removing the window that way. It is important that you keep the integrity of the flashing which is around the top of the window. Also, the main thing to consider is when you are ordering new windows, make sure you get the right size because you a want all windows to be a tight fit. They should fit into the frame tightly and then you should be able to insulate around them. And button things up again if you are shingling with new shingles or if you are using the existing shingles, which is doubtful because they tend to splinter off that everything is tight, also if there needs to be any cocking down on the inside. Window replacement is really something you should not tackle if you have never done it before. You should at least watched a professional do it or go to a buddy if he has done it or a construction site if you got friends that are in construction. It is a big thing and it is important that it is done right because if it is not, it will leak. So, main thing is main points really are to remove the existing window that you want out of there correctly. Take your time. Do not demolish it. Keep the integrity of the flashing and anything that is tight around the window and also make sure you order the right size windows and that is really it to keep basic and simple on window replacement.
