Now you may have noticed that the top of this page it says “untitled one” and similarly at the very top of the browser window right next to the name of the browser it says “untitled one”. That is where the page title will appear and page titles like many other pages wide settings are specified in the page property settings, so now let us go back to Expression Web and let me show you how to change things like background color, page title and other page wide features. I am going to use the Alt tab keys to switch from one program to another. Now that I am back to my main page to make these page wide settings I want to choose file, properties and I am opening up the page properties dialogue. Notice the first thing here is is the title, so we could call this Blowing Bubbles. Now you can use anything you want in the title of the page, you do not have to worry about spaces and special characters but here is a tip, search engines pay a lot of attention to title tag so it is a great place to sneak in a couple of keywords if you are trying to optimize your pages. Similarly the page description and the keywords fields are also designed for search engines, so you might type a description here like this page shows you how to blow bubbles or if you are really worried about search engines optimization again you would ride up much stronger description and you would make sure to get all your important keywords in there. Then you would also list the keywords here like bubbles, gums etcetera. Now many search engines ignore the keywords field today because it has been so heavily abused by web designers but the page description still gets used by most of them and it is always good practice to fill in these fields. A little lower here in the page properties dialogue you will find a place to add background sound if you choose to. I generally shy away from this option because I do not like to start sound without warning my visitors but that is really a designer’s choice. I prefer to insert a sound file so that I can have a little controller that lets me at least include an on off button. But if you just want sound a play forever when someone comes to your page, this is where you would browse and link to that sound file. In the formatting area you will see you could add background pictures, so you check this and then browse to find an image that you could fill in the background with or you can set a background color. So we could make the background color pink oh, that looks pretty horrible or we can choose more colors and use the selection tool to lift a color from the page. You could also change the colors for hyperlinks. Notice that there are four link color options. That is because this is the link color when it displays on the page before someone’s click on it. This is the color the link will change to after a visitor to your page has clicked on it. This is the color the link will display as someone is actively in the process of clicking on it and this is the color that will display if someone just hovers over the link. So if we wanted to change those we could make them very different colors. You could again make this anything you want but I do recommend that you try to be consistent through all the site, so that your users get use to what links and visited links look like. In the more advance settings you will find another of my favorite options which is to set the margins to zero. If I am really working on a careful design I want to build the design right up to the very edge of the page and the default in most browsers is to have ten or 15 pixels of space between the edge of the browser window and the first element on the page. So if you want the elements on your page to be tied up to the edge of the browser window then you want to set this to zero. If you want to leave just a little margin like maybe we will leave just a little top and; left margin since this pages relatively simple and otherwise that image will be flat up against there. Under custom you can make some more advance settings and under language if you are working on an internat
