Most of us still hold out hope for finding something great in the mail box. But what we usually find is a whole lot of junk. In fact, a third of all mail is actually considered junk mail. You want to stop it, I shut it. One of the best places to start is donotmail.org. This organization is all about raising awareness for a national Do Not Mail registry, similar to the Do Not Call registry that keeps telemarketers from calling your home. On this website, you'll find links to remove your name and address from all the big junk mail lists. And for all the magazines that you really don't want, visit catalogchoice.org, it's a free service, it'll let you opt out of receiving the magazines that you are just not using. In speaking of not using, when was the last time you really needed to use a phone book given all the online sources now. There are over five 500 million phone books delivered to homes and businesses every year. If you don't want one, you don't have to get it. Go to yellowpagesgoesgreen.com to opt out of receiving future phone books. Of course, you should always recycle any of the paper that you get in your mail box you don't want, but the best way to do your part is to opt out of these things and prevent them from getting there in the first place.
