Here is a really interesting tool that I happen to like. It is a router. What is a router? Well, it is like a drill that has a variety of interchangeable bits and you can used this particular tool to cut grooves in a piece of wood, create profiles like a piece of molding and do all sorts of really neat fancy things to dress up what is basically an ordinary flat-leveled wood.
Now, one of the neat things that rather has, it has got a way that you can adjust the depth of each of the bits so that you can go deep or shallow and you usually do that and it has a multitude of infinite adjustments so you can go as deep as three quarter an inch or as shallow as sixteenth of an inch.
The bits are very easy to take in and out of the router. You just always have to make sure that you have got the power cord unplug because the router bits are extremely sharp. They need to be so that they can cut very cleanly in a piece of wood.
One of the things I liked to use around it for is to dress up the edge of the piece of wood like we did on our carpenter’s bench if you remember in last year’s segment here. It really is a cool neat type of tool to use.
The neatest thing to remember is that it comes from a bunch of different tips. I just have a few of them here to show you but remember visit a local tool shop, a tool store and you will see at least twenty or thirty different types of bits in all different diameters, shapes, size and whatever it allows you to make any thing at any type of piece of wood.
Well, you can see that router is a pretty cool tool.
