For this lesson, we are going to open up a new site that we got here in the lesson folder Lesson Number Three. Simply find the Project Files Folder that is on your desktop and then c click Lesson Three. In there, you will find the folder called Maiden Head Studio. Select that and inside of that, you want to find this file called maidenheadstudio.site. That is the site file. Double click on it and your site will open up and Go Live.
Now, I will just press command option H on the Mac. It is the Mac on the keyboard command. What it will do is hide that finder window in the background so it is not distracting to us. Over here on the left hand side of the site window, we have a number of files and one of them is appropriately named starthere.html. Well, that is the one we are going to start with. So to open a file from the files list, simply double click on the file’s icon and here we go. By default, Go Live will open up the page in the Layout Editor which is this button here on the left. You will notice there are a number of buttons to its right and these all represent different editing modes. What we are going to do in this lesson is go through them and see what we can do in each of those editing modes. The Layout Editor is the place where most visual designers spend most of their time. It is the place where you can just place things on to the page. Generally, the process is you take items from the Objects Palette here and drag and drop or double click to place them on to the page here. And then you insert the attribute for those objects in the Inspector Palette which we went over a little earlier in the previous lesson.
So, let me show you some of the options for the Layout Editor. Up here in the View Menu, we have an option called Rulers. So just mess down to show Rulers and select it and watch what happens, Rulers appear on the page. To hide the Rulers, same thing View and turn them off and away they go. Now, we also have a Zoom Tool here in the objects and Tools Palette. So, by clicking on the Zoom Tool and then clicking into the window, the page will zoom open. I had click into the page and so it zoomed all the way up to 1600% but what if I do not want 1600%? Well there are various options that I can choose. I can either click on this button here or choose from my list to go to a different percentage or I can click and drag across a piece to just enlarge that one spot. Then, if I simply go back to the zoom value here and click once, it will bring me back to 100% zoom. You can also increase or decrease the zoom value by simply clicking on the plus or minus buttons here on the lower left. What if I do not want to zoom, I just want to see a different part of my page without actually making it any larger or smaller? Well, you can do that too using the Hand Tool.
So let us go back up to the tools up here in the Objects and Tools Palette and click the Hand Tool. You could also press the H on your keyboard to get the Hand Tool. With the Hand Tool, I can now click and drag my page to whatever position I wanted up or down, side to side and this will show you the page within the viewable area of the document.
