Hi, I am Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I am going to walk you through the process of installing a piece of baseboard trim. Today, we are going to replace this piece of baseboard trim because it was damaged when somebody stepped on the doorstop. What we are going to do first is take our carpenters knife and cut along the edge of the baseboard trim to break the seal. Once we have broken the seal of cock between the trim piece and the wall, we want to use a sturdy paddy knife to just kind of push down in there and separate it away from the wall. You can also take the screwdriver and just work your way to along the length of this putting the paddy knife up against the wall and then leveraging with the screwdriver and there we go. We have removed the trim piece. We will now replace it with a new one. We are going to cut a new piece of trim piece and we will start off by a cutting a 45 degree angle. Now, we are going to measure the distance from the edge of the wall to the inside corner edge of this outside joint and we see that it is 25 x 160. We will transfer that measurement to this trim board. I am going to make a cut. I will cut the board to length. We put it in place it if it fits. And it looks like it is medium long so we I am going to trim it one more time on a straight edge here.
Now that we trimmed the edge, put it in place again and as you can see we have nice, tight, joint seam here. We will tuck this in with a couple of nails or cock and then paint it. All we have to do is put a few finish nails in. And we are ready for cock. Now, we are going to run a bit of cock along the seam between the sheet rack and the baseboard trim. We are going hit the corner as well. We will wipe the sections down in a minute and we are going to hit all the nails. We just take our finger, wipe through down very quickly and take the moist rag and just run your finger along the edge, on the seam and we are ready to let this dry and we will come back.
Now that the cock is dry, we are just making our finishing touches on the paint job and all that will be left is to put the new doors out there. Well, there you go. We replaced this damaged baseboard trim piece with a brand new one. And it only took us about 30 minutes.
