Hi! My name is Shannon, I am here to talk to you about introducing organic foods and an organic lifestyle to your husband. My husband was not so thrilled about introducing organics into the house. Not that he did not agree with the philosophy and the thoughts behind it, it was the--you know you get used to using what it is that you are using and it becomes very comfortable and you want to continue doing so, because you know what to expect. One of the first things that I did was figure out what he’s favorites were. My husband loves cookies, he loves brownies. Basically, anything that contains flour is one of his favorites. So, I would go shopping, I would bring home different type of organic cookies. We found a really good organic brownie mix that he absolutely loves. So, if you find some of his favorites that he likes, then introducing some other things here in there is not going to be such a shock for him. The other thing I did is just have a talk with him and said, “Hey! I know that you have some things that you really like and I am sure there are things you really do not care either way, if they are organic. And, whether or not we can make a priority to have them organic.” Fruits and vegetables were one of those, especially fresh fruits and vegetables. I definitely wanted them to be organic, my husband pick careless either ways, so it was one of those--I respect things you do not like better organic, but you can at least give these things a try and if there are thing that you do not see a difference it. What difference that it make, if we use organic or not. The other thing is to be around like minded people. Since, I have started conversing with a lot more of our friends about our organic choices. A lot of people have shown interest, as well, in the fact that they are using organics in their homes. So, not only is my husband seen it in our house, but he seen it in our friends’ houses, as well,. So, it makes that transition a little bit easier too. And, he is able to discover some different products that he did not even think of using before. The other thing is actually respecting his point of view. If there are things that he does not care for, he do not most certainly--you do not shove it on him, because he will get a definitely, absolutely no, no…I do not want to try anything like that. My husband does not like…like ketchup. I love it, to me it actually taste like tomatoes. But, he does not really care for it. He does not care for organic milk. However, I feel very strongly about organic milk and the more strongly that I feel about it, the more strongly he feels against it. And, it simply a taste, it is a difference for your palate to get use to. I respect the fact that he does not like organic milk. But, one thing that I feel very, very strongly about is making sure that it is rBGH free and in my mind will eventually get to organic milk. So, I have organic soy in the house. We have rBGH milk free in the house and I use a lot of the organic soy for the kids and for myself, as well. Get your kids involved in discovering organics and discovering a very chemical free living. There is simple little things like shampoo. I have a shampoo that I used. My boys absolutely love it, but it does not soap up and be all foamy, which some other soaps can do. And, my kids have gotten used to it, they actually like it. They are saying, “I do not want foamy, in get to my eyes. I do not care for it!” So, when--or giving them a bath, it becomes a preference too. So, if it is a preference from your kids, maybe your husband is not going to be as reluctant to try things too. So, just a few tips for you: 1) Find out what his favorites are, get those favorites; 2) Be around like-minded people to introduce him to organics and different products that others may have in their house that you do not have in yours; and, 3) Get your children involve.
