Now, when you are first teaching, we are trying to learn the keyboard. We have to make sense out of the keyboard.
Now, a two of beginner it just looks like a lot of black notes and white notes, but if you look at it they are a groups of three black notes, two black notes, three black notes, two black notes all over the keyboard.
Now, point these out, if the child is very young make sure that they understand and make them play the groups of three black notes and then two and then again three black notes and then two. Make sure they understand that. That is the work when they understand it. Make them find the groups of three black notes and the groups of two all over the piano until they can do that without any delay or any confusion.
Now continue with this until they feel very comfortable finding this. Then point out the white note to the left of the two black notes and tell them this is C. Then make them find all the C’s all over the keyboard. Over and over and over and over until they can find them immediately.
So, three black notes, two black notes and teach them to recognize the note C. Then teach them where middle C is at the middle of the piano. Middle C, this is very important so that they can find one middle C in this single sheet from all the rest of the C’s. C and this is middle C. Continue with that until they easily remember where middle C is because later on you will understand why this is important.
Then, this may take two or three lessons if the child is very young or distractive without the things or not in the mood to get done to concentrating, so do not worry about it. After that, we have to teach them where A is. It is two notes down from C.
C, D, E, A
Now, teach them where all the A’s are.
So, make sure they can find out where all the A’s are, where middle C is and let us call this middle A.
This is middle A. Make sure they can find all the A’s, but typically they can distinguish middle A from all the rest of the A’s. This is very important and let us call this the most elementary lesson and you know, continue with these with them until they feel comfortable negotiating all these little things. Where are the three notes are, where are the two notes are, where are the C’s are, where middle C is, and then where middle A is.
