All right guys, it is Aaron. This is another song in electric, obviously. This is by Papa Roach and the song is called ‘Scars”. It is an acoustic version too but you can actually just play the acoustic version the same as the electric guitar, it is in drop D tuning.
Standard tuning is E, A, D, G, B, E. On this one, you want to have D, A, D, G, B, E, so these two here, they sound the same tuning. Now, for this song, the intro is really easy. When you are in drop D, you will find out playing a lot of power chords where you just like put one finger across the same fret. So that is where we are going to start, the intro sounds like this. [Guitar Playing] like that. In a lot of distortion, you can kind of work with yourself on how much distortion you want, but they have a lot of distortion in it. So that is what I am going to teach you today.
So the first chord of the intro is you play the top three strings on the 9th fret. Since you are in drop D, you just put your fingers across. You can just bar across that on the 9th . [Guitar Playing] you just kind of hit the top three strings. You play that on the 9th fret, and the next thing you play is down to the 4th fret, just that top three strings again.
Then what you are going to do is you already have the bar across on 4th fret. You are going to leave that there and you are going to stick your ring and pinkie on the 3rd and 4th strings down on your D and G and you are just going to play the A. You are going to play the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings down from the top, so A, B and G. So you are playing the A string, which is on the 4th fret because of your bar and then the 6th fret of the D and G because that is where your ring and pinkie are.
That sounds like it. You drop down here to the 1st fret or the 2nd fret and play that. You do the same thing again the second time through it and then you go—[Demo] So it goes 9, 4 and that 4 on the 6, then 2, then 9, 4, 4 and 6, 2 and then 2 on the 4 again. The verse, there are two ways to play it. Just from the kind of beginner lesson, the first verse, I want you to play—you are just going to play 6, so down to 1, 2—you can strum like [Demo] 6, 1, 2, 4
If you want to get a little more advanced, then you can look on the tabs and see that there are some kind of little variations like with that 6. Instead of just four beats on the 6, it is actually these two top strings you play 6, but it is actually on the D string. It is like the first strum, your pinkie on the 9th. The next strum, you have your ring finger on 8th, then your pinkie on the 9th or the A string, so it is like [Demo] kind of like that
Then when you are on the 1st fret, you will play the 1st fret. Now on the G string, you have 4, kind of like that. Then when you are on the 2, there is something else too, it is like this. I can even hardly hear them when I listen to the song. They are probably having too much distortion for it. So for the verse, just play 6, 1, 2, to 4. Then on the chorus, the chorus is just like the intro. It is 9, 4, 9, 4, then you put these two fingers here on the 6th fret, back to the bar on second.
And then at the end of the chorus, you have this[ Demo], just like that, then 2 and then 4. So you can look through these tabs. The chorus goes 9 then this [Demo] 4, then same thing again. The bridge is just like the first bridge I guess, which you would say really helped me with the pre-chorus. It is the same as the first verse, chorus again is the same. The bridge is the intro, so for the bridge, you just play the same thing. [Demo] So the end is just on 9, like that.
So I hope that helps. I know it is kind of not really in depth, but it is not really a complicated song, so just look at the tabs and if you have any questions, ask them to me and we will get them taken care of for you. So thanks guys.
