Today I am going to show you how to saw the light and shadows quilt block together. This is a really easy quilt block. As you can see, it just rectangles and squares and we are going basing an 8-inch block. Using your embroidery instructions, you can see that you need to cut a 2 ½ x 8 ½, 2 ½ x 6 ½, 2 ½ x 4 ½, those are going to be the rectangles on the outside and then squares in the center. So I have got everything laid out. I decided to do purple instead of blue. Obviously, you can pick whatever colors you want. But these are all ready to saw so I am going to take them over to a sawing and start putting them together. I keep the quilt block on the flannel board next to my sawing machine so I can see exactly how to stitch things together. First, I am going to start with the center and what I will do is just flip this over so that they face right sides together and then I would jeans stitch this two blocks together. I am going to use two patches together. I am going to take this out of my machine and keep them some together because I stitch them together the way they need to be in order to make that center patch, all I can do is open it up, flip them together, fold the same allowances to the dark side of the fabric, lined everything up and then stitch this together and I will have my center four patch put together. [Sawing Sound] I will open it up, put it back on my flannel boards and I am ready to go. Now, the next thing I am going to do is look at my pattern and I can see actually that the center needs to be some on to the right side because that is the patch that matches the closest. So, I am going to fold that right size together, stitch that together and making sure that my same allowance is fold that toward the darker side. And actually I am going to stitch that with the purple on the bottom so that I can see what is -- where that same allowance is. [Sawing Sound] Can and if you are very made a lot of cabin, you will see that this is pretty similar but it will wad cabin together. We will open this up and then the next one that goes on is the bottom. So fold that up, and I want to make sure that the same allowances are fold up toward the dark side. This time, again, I am going to put the solid piece of fabric on the bottom then, I would not have to worry about seeing allowances, [Sawing Sound] And make sure that this is lining up and this meet. [Sawing Sound] Got this part and the next one that goes on is the purple bar on the top so, I am going to fold that right sides together with the solid fabric on the bottom, line everything up, make sure that seeing allowances are facing toward the darker fabric. [Sawing Sound] If you got a bunch of these blocks, you can change so then. You just keep adding on your blocks to the end. So, we have got that much and the last piece that goes on is this white piece on the side. So, fold that over. Put the white piece down so that I would not have to worry about seeing allowances. Stitch it to the end. Take it out and it is done! And there you go, light and shadows -- all done.
