Now, I am going to add a layer so I can put a big image right here in the middle of this page. Click and drag in the layer.
Now what happen here, this layer just jumps into the middle, it did not go to the top left. Watch for that as you are adding layers. It means that the layer nested itself inside another layer. You can keep track of nesting by using the layer’s paint. You will find the layers paint in the task paint menu and as you can see now, I have some nested layers.
Now nested layers are not necessarily a problem in fact sometimes you have an advantage to nesting a layer because you want to keep two layers together. But in this case, that was not my intention. It is just a very easy thing to do accidentally in this program and a very easy thing to fix. I can rename this layer in the tag properties task paint. I am going to call it deer BG because I am going to put a big picture of a deer in this layer.
Now to move this layer, I want to get the cross hairs, click and drag, bring it into my page, stretch it out because I know I am going to put a big picture in here, insert my cursor, insert a picture. When you are working on multiple websites like I am in this series, you need to be very careful that when you go to link, you are really in the right site folder. If you are not sure, just click on current site and you will always jump back to this site that you currently have opened in the folder list. The image I want to link to is in the images folder in the friend’s folder, in the inside page folder. I like to organize my site with lots of sub directories. If I click on deer BG, I am going to get this big image and when I choose insert, I get the accessibility properties dialog.
Remember, this is the text that would be inserted behind my image in a code as alt text. Now, I can still make adjustments to my layer and I can even click and drag to move my layer to make room for one more layer that I want to add to this page. Clicking on the layer button, I drag it in to the page then click and drag to move it down into place.
Now you see again, this layer has nested itself under the top layer. I am going to drag it up to make sure it is an independent layer and I am going to rename it deer text. I am going to hit return that was applied to the layer. I can click and drag to make that layer bigger while I am cleaning up the layers in these layers’ task pain. Let us just make sure there is other layer that I just created is also an independent layer and let us rename it nav-text. I cannot tighten it up so that these are not overlapping.
And now what I would like to do is add some text to this area that is also in that Microsoft word document. Before I will go to get that text, let me just save my work. Remember, save early and often, control S and then I am going to use alt +tab switch over the Microsoft word, select my text, copy, control C, alt +tab to go back. And this time, instead of just using control V to paste, let me come up to edit, paste text and you will see we have multiple options for how we paste text into expression web. If I choose plain text, I will remove any formatting or styling information that was in the original word document.
I am going to choose normal paragraphs with line breaks. So I keep those returns with simple paragraph formatting. Notice that that option allows me to paste the text with the paragraphs, but not the MSO normal style.
Now, I am going to add a small image into this paragraph and then I am going to use a style to rap this text around the image using the standard insert picture. At this time, I am going to choose deer small. And you will see, I have another little picture of this adorable deer. You can create CSS style to format text and you can create CSS styles to position elements like this image. So if I want to align this to the left so that the text raps around to the right and could create a new style that specifies that placement, I will do that by going back to the manage style’s task paint, choosing new style in creating a new class style that I am going to call image l
