Norton has one of the most complete scanning agent on the market proving the three independent lapse that it has the ability to detect and remove viruses. It also includes an anti spyware scanner and protection compatible with all the popular instant messenger programs. Significant issues with Norton dominating system resources and slowing down our test machine kept it form being in our top five viewed products. Its excessive integration with your computer can cause applications to hang or your system to freeze altogether. This is something to consider while you decide on an anti-virus solution. While Norton anti-virus scan engine was affected, the anti spyware component was much less so. The spyware scanner only found a single tracking cookie at our test system. Norton Anti-Virus 2008 is good at protecting your system from viruses but suffers from system resource problems and a sub part spyware scanner. Out of 17 products reviewed, Norton comes in at number eight.
