Clockwise around the table places a large blind. Now for our purposes we are going to play the smallest game available in most casinos that is $2 and $4 betting Hold'em. The betting increments are $2 and $4. therefore, the blinds or force bets are $1 and $2. Each player is dealt two cards face down. Unlike seven-card stud there are no cards dealt face up before the first round of betting. The players have all been dealt two cards face down and now there is a round of betting. In Texas Hold'em the players will bet based on the strength of their starting two cards without seeing any of the community cards that are yet to come. Moving around the table clockwise the player after the big blind must now either call the big blind, raise or fold. There are three choices. You have chosen to call. The next player chooses to call as well. Now we come to the blinds. The player in the small blind that is the player who has placed $1 into the pot has three choices. He may complete the bet, that is call $1 and make his bet $2 total. He may fold, lose his dollar into the pot and be done with the hand or he may raise doubling the big blind and making it $4 to go. This player looks down to the find and decides to raise. He has now made it $4 to go. Each player at the table must now either call two more dollars, throw their hand away and lose their $2 or re-raise making the total bets.
