Designing a sprinkler system properly involves making sure that there is as close to an equal amount of water distributed to all areas as possible. If you put too many heads on a zone and cut down the number of zones you use, your sprinkler system w

So what question we get from time to time at sprinkler daddy is why can I just put more sprinklers on each zone and then it will cut down my cost on how many valves I need, how valve box I need and how much pipe I need to run. Why can I just put more sprinklers on a zone? Well, basically your sprinkler is equip with a certain amount of spray that a nuzzle can put out so for example you might put on a 10 foot nuzzle or 12 foot nuzzle or 15 foot nuzzle or 17 foot nuzzle or all the way up to 40 feet. But that is base on good water pressure and when you have got a whole bunch of more sprinklers on one zone you have got more water that needs to go to more places. So your water pressure is going to get knock down a little bit which means that even you though you got that 15 foot nuzzle on your sprinkler head it is not going to be able to go 15 feet. Maybe they will be going to go 13 feet or 12 feet so you have got three feet that you are not going to end up covering to the best of that sprinkler has ability which means that you are going to have dry spots and some areas. So that is obviously not what we said out to do when we are designing a sprinkler system. We design a sprinkler system so that your lawn receives the best amount of watering not the least amount of watering so that is why we suggest putting a certain a number of heads on each zone and that is why you need to include a certain number of heads in a system.
