A wise men once said, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” Welcome to the Walt Ribeiro show. One kid, 80-piece orchestra, opinions, new music, cover songs, discussions and more. Welcome to the Walt Ribeiro show. Hey what is up! Someone wrote to me, it says, her name is Yvonne. It says “Hey! I saw your video onYouTube and man, it has helped me a lot like you have no idea. Just one question about your video, in relation to the beat counting—” now, for those who do not know what beat counting is when you play a beat, that refers to beat counting. So, if a drummer comes in and goes one, two, three, four, that is four beats. And usually, four beats is one measure so that if the drummer goes one, two, three, four. One, two, three, four, then that is two measures of four beats. I hope that helps you guys a little bit. Here is our question, let us say you have a half note on a musical stuff so let us draw a half note. The question goes, “If you have that on a musical stuff, does that mean that you have to play the note twice in two beats? Or does that mean that you play the note once and you hold it for two beats? If you were to play twice within two beats, you would actually look like this. Let me put a measure line here and I will put two-quarter notes. If you want to play the notes twice within two beats, you would play it this way. And since they are all up here, I am going to discuss measures real quick. So here is one measure right here and here is the second measure. Here are two measures of two beats each because a half note gets two beats and quarter notes get one beat. One, one, and here is the two beats here, here is your two beats here. Now, the way that I would write that would be 2/4. Top note means beats per measure. The bottom part means, which note gets the beat and here is what we have as one measure. Here is your two beats per measure. So that if this said ¾, then what will happen is that you would have to have another quarter beat in here because if you did not, it would be wrong, because there has to be three beats in that measure no matter what. I hope that helps Yvonne and thanks a lot for sending your request. Take care everyone, see you around.
