Male: If you have a nosebleed and you did everything you had mentioned and various ways and it continues, when would you recommend that the kid should go to the emergency room?
Dr. Dolitsky: If you have used a piece of cotton with a vasoconstrictive agent like Afrin or Neo-Synephrine or one of the generic forms of those and you have applied pressure to the proper part of the nose for seven minutes straight on your watch because sometimes it will seem like seven minutes and you have only applied pressure for 30 seconds. If you have done all of that and the nose does not stop bleeding, then you need to be seen by a physician. Either a physician’s office or an emergency room because that would indicate either the bleeding is coming from somewhere else or the child may have some previously undiagnosed clotting problem and therefore they are having difficulty clotting and they need some additional attention.
