Finding the job for you may not be as difficult as you think. You can do some job-hunting in just one place, and in just a few hours. If this sounds appealing to you, a job fair may be the perfect job-hunting opportunity. Job fairs are events wherein companies in need of employees get together with job seekers. In job fairs, companies usually set up booths where resumes may be submitted. Some companies also conduct preliminary interviews during job fairs. Since there are a lot of companies at such events, you may find yourself overwhelmed and confused. Don’t be! Read on to find some useful tips to become a success during a job fair:

Preparation is key:

  • Prepare your resume. If you already have one, proofread it. Make sure that all the entries are updated, especially your contact details. Prepare multiple copies of your resumes.
  • Research the job fair. Know as much as you can about the job fair you are planning to attend. If possible, know which companies will be present. This will help you choose which companies to approach. Not all companies in the job fair will be fit for your qualifications, so, to make efficient use of your time at the job fair, it will be good to make a checklist of which companies you like.
  • Research the companies. Once you have a list of your target companies, do some research or read about them. Afterwards, prepare good questions to ask. Ensure that these questions are appropriate for the company you are approaching.

On the day itself:

  • Suit up. Choose your attire wisely. Remember that you will be applying for a job. Make yourself presentable to prospective employers. Also, since job fairs may be held at big halls, make sure that your attire will be comfortable as well.
  • Sell yourself. Some companies may already do preliminary interviews. In addition to confidently answering questions, prepare some sales pitches about yourself. What are your skills? What are your strengths? Try to make these known to the interviewer.
  • Show that you are interested. After answering their questions, make use of the questions you have prepared. This will show the interviewer that you are sincerely interested in the job you are applying for.
  • Stay fresh and alert. One interview after another will be tiring. At one point, you may feel that interviewers are asking the same questions and the job-hunting experience may become tedious. This is not good for you as you may become grouchy. When this happens, take a break. A few minutes will be good enough to recharge you and prepare yourself for a few more interviews.
  • Say thank you. After the interview, show the interviewer that you are grateful for being given the chance to apply. A firm handshake will work well also.

After the job fair:

  • Some companies will immediately make calls after interviews made during the job fair, however, some don’t. This does not necessarily mean that you have been rejected. Try to make calls to follow up about your application, this will show your sincere interest in applying.

These are just a few tips that you may follow to help you on your job fair visit. Remember that job fairs are there to help you get a job. Remember these easy and practical tips to help you find your dream job.
