Can I Remove Skin Tags at Home

Although skin tags are benign growths that are small and painless, they can be irritating to look at. Skin tags naturally form in patches of skin that frequently rub together, such as the armpits, neck, and even on the eyelashes. While there are treatments that you can avail of at the doctor’s office, removing skin tags at home is also possible. Here’s how.

  1. Skin tag removal using threads. Take a very thin thread, such as tooth floss or fine sewing threads, and wrap it around the skin tag tightly. This will constrict blood flow and eventually cause the tissues in the skin tag to die out. Do this for three to four days or until the skin tag naturally falls off. Apart from threads, you can also use nail cutters to immediately remove the skin tag. Be sure to have some peroxide to disinfect the wound after cutting the skin tag, and to apply pressure on the area to stop blood flow. Also make sure that the nail cutter you use has been disinfected with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol, to prevent infections.
  2. Skin tag removal using baking soda and oil. There are plenty of homemade ointments that can be used to remove skin tags. One is a combination of castor oil and baking soda. Add the two ingredients until you have a paste that can be dabbed on top of the skin tag. The baking soda and castor oil will eventually dry out the skin tag until it naturally falls off. Keep in mind that you need to do this for up to two weeks. Apart from baking soda, you can also use other over the counter topical drugs that will also dry up the skin tag in several days.
  3. Skin tag removal using vitamins E. Take a vitamin E capsule and puncture the tip and apply the vitamin E on the affected area. Afterwards, take a band-aid and press it onto the skin tag to add pressure. This should weaken the skin tag. By the time the band-aid is starting to peel off from the skin, the skin tag should stick to the band-aid. Otherwise, repeat the procedure. If you do not
  4. Skin tag removal using duct tape. You can also use a piece of duct tape and cut it to a size that fits over the skin tag comfortably. Press the duct tape over the skin tag and allow the duct tape to peel off naturally. The pressure from the duct tape and the lack of oxygen and blood circulation should eventually kill off the skin tag.

Finally, you can also dab clear nail polish over the skin tag for several days until the skin tag falls off. The nail polish has chemicals that will destroy the skin tag without harming the rest of the body. It will also create a thin coat that adds just enough pressure to restrict the blood flow. With these steps, you should be able to remove skin tags at home.
