How To Make Authentic Greek Salad

The Greek salad is well known all over the world because it is both delicious and highly nutritious as well. Fresh vegetables are necessary when preparing it, and olive oil is a main component for this type of salad, making it a very healthy dish. Since it is quick to prepare, taking only a few minutes to put together, people enjoy having it as a starter for main courses. Others even have their salad as their main course, finding it quite satisfying on its own. To prepare an authentic Greek salad, here are the steps to follow.

  • Ingredients you will need. For your Greek salad, you will need a small head of romaine lettuce, which you have washed and dried, and torn into bite-sized pieces, ½ of a red onion that is sliced thinly, one chopped up cucumber, either peeled and seeded or not, one chopped tomato, some pitted kalamata olives, some feta cheese that has been crumbled, half of a lemon, olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Fresh oregano sprigs or dried oregano may be added if you wish.
  • Preparing your salad. Get a large bowl and combine your romaine lettuce pieces, cucumber, onion and tomato slices, feta cheese, and olives. If you would like to have oregano added into your salad, include this in your bowl. Get your lemon half and begin to squeeze the juice on top of the salad mixture. You will need 3 heads of chopped fresh broccoli, 1 piece chopped red onion, 3 jumbo black olives of about 6 ounces, 2 sliced artichoke hearts, 3 chopped bunches of green onions, 10 pieces of chopped cherry tomatoes, 8 ounces vinaigrette, and yogurt. Simply combine all of the ingredients together in a large bowl, excluding the vinaigrette and yogurt. Blend in your yogurt and your vinaigrette before pouring the mixture over you salad. Mix together completely and serve.
  • Greek salad with lettuce. This recipe is perfect for the beginner because of the simple steps in preparing it. The ingredients include lettuce leaves, grape tomatoes, onions, long cucumbers, olives, olive oil, oregano, and some salt. In a large bowl, place in cut up and sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. Place your olives in and drizzle your salad with olive oil. Serve.
