How To Make Easy Cinnamon and Brown Sugar Coffee Cake

This cake is a classic and it is loved by many since its advent in 1951. This recipe is mouthwatering and it is easy to do. Below are steps and guides on how to make an easy cinnamon and brown sugar coffee cake.

  • Ingredients for the yeast dough. You need 2 cups of all purpose sifted flour, 1 ounce of granular yeast, 3 tablespoons of scalded milk, 1 ½ tablespoons sugar, 2 slightly beaten eggs, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ lemon or grated lemon rind, and ½ cup raisins.
  • Ingredients for the filling. You need 2 tablespoons soft butter, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ½ cup brown sugar, 6 tablespoons of flour and ½ cup chopped nuts.
  • Ingredients for the icing. You need 1 tablespoon of cream or milk, ¼ teaspoon of vanilla, and 1/8 teaspoon salt.
  • Prepare the yeast dough. In a mixing bowl, combine the 2 cups all purpose sifted flour and the ½ cup butter. Dissolve an ounce of granular yeast (a small package of compressed yeast can be used) to 2-3 tablespoons of warm water and add it to the bowl. Add 1 ½ tablespoons sugar, 6 tablespoons of cooled and scalded milk, 2 slightly beaten eggs, ½ cup raisins, and grated 1/2 lemon rind to the mixture. Beat the mixture until smooth.
  • Make the yeast dough. Sprinkle 6 tablespoons of flour on a pastry cloth. Make the dough on the cloth; knead the dough until it’s elastic and smooth. Then, put the dough in a greased bowl (so the dough won’t stick) and cover. Let the dough rise in a warm location until its size has doubled. Make a rectangle shaped out of the dough.
  • Make the filling of your cake. Spread 2 tablespoons of soft butter on the dough. Then, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ½ cup chopped nuts and ½ cup brown sugar on the dough.

Roll the dough tightly. Begin on the wide side of the dough. The sealed edge must be facing down. Use a scissor to cut the dough into two long strips; do not cut the other end of the strips. Twist the strips for a few times. Connect the ends to make a ring. Put the dough into a 10-inch tube pan. Let the dough rise until it has doubled its size.

  • Bake the dough. Bake it in an oven in 375ºF for 35 minutes. Put the cake on a wire rack and let it cool.
  • Make the icing of your cake. Combine the vanilla, cream or milk, and salt. Mix them well. Drizzle the icing on the top of your cake. Sprinkle a thin layer of powdered sugar if you want a sugary finish.
  • Serve your cinnamon and brown sugar coffee cake. You can top it with different cream cheese frosting. Mix cinnamon and brown sugar and add it to the entire cake if you want a sugary-sweet consistency. You can serve it warm or cold.
