These days, our computers phones, and TVs are constantly seeing ads for vitamins and multivitamins. However, these aren't nearly as useful as the commercials would have you think.

The healthiest way to get your daily vitamins is to eat a balanced diet. The only exception is Vitamin D, which is absorbed through the skin.

One of the vitamins you don't hear much about is B12. B12 can do a lot of great things for your body. It helps your nerves and blood cells, as well as DNA and other things.

It can also be found in many different foods. We'll talk about some of the many sources of vitamin B12 in this article.

1. Clams

Clams are one of the biggest sources of vitamin B12. The average American ate about a third of a pound of clams in 2015.

Clams are so abundant in B12 that a single clam provides 3.5 times the necessary daily value. That's great news for your body, right down to your hair.

Many nutritionists would recommend vitamin B12 for hair, because it encourages red blood cells, which, in turn, contribute to hair growth.

2. Fortified Cereal

If you're not fond of clams, you can get your B12 every morning in the form of fortified cereals. Fortified cereals are cereals that have had nutrients added to them.

Which cereals are fortified? The answer is that a lot of them are, but not all of them are healthy. It's not uncommon for companies to fortify sugary cereals in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience.

On the whole these cereals are still unhealthy. They just have a few vitamins added to them.

The simplest cereals are still among the best. Among these cereals are oatmeal, Cheerios, and Special K.

3. Beef and Liver

One of the most popular sources of B12 is beef. In fact, most of the animal products we consume are good sources of B12. 

The portions of meat that are highest in B12 are the liver and kidneys. This is true for most animals, but especially cows and sheep. A single ounce of beef liver contains over 8 times the daily recommendation for B12. Mutton liver is even higher.

This should, perhaps, come as no surprise, because the function of the liver is to manage chemicals in our blood and create bile. Bile is a substance that breaks down food so that our body can absorb the nutrients from it.

You can find more than B12 in the liver, too. It also contains protein, iron, vitamin A, and several others. It's commonly labeled as a superfood because of all these benefits.
