How To Make New Year's Resolutions

It is wonderful to start the year by making New Year's resolutions.  It feels like a fresh start, and it can be very motivating to reaching your goals. Here's how to make strong New Year's resolutions.

Before January 1, prepare a list of New Year's resolutions that you would like to make.  For example, your list might include losing weight, quitting smoking, and learning to speak French.

The next thing you should do is purchase and gather all the supplies that you need in order to accomplish your goals.  To help you lose weight, invest in a good pair of running shoes, a few exercise DVDs, and a journal that you can use for a food diary.  If you plan to quit smoking, get yourself some relaxation CDs to use when you have the urge to smoke.  You can also get a package of nicotine gum, or write a list of compelling reasons to quit smoking.  If you want to learn to speak French, invest in a good language learning program so that you can begin your studies promptly on January 1.

Having all the necessary equipment and information available to you will help you succeed.  If you decide to quit smoking, it will be easier to accomplish if you are prepared.  Lack of preparation may tempt you to have just one more cigarette that could lead to downfall.

When you make New Year's resolutions, enlist the help of your friends, family, and co-workers.  You will be less likely to eat that candy bar, or have that cigarette, if you know that people are watching you.  You can also encourage other people to share their goals so that you can all be supportive of one another.

You can make reaching your goals fun by keeping a log of your progress.  If you're old-fashioned, you can draw a simple chart or keep a diary.  If you are more tech-savvy, you can even create a web page dedicated to your resolutions and progress.  Keep your loved ones apprised of your progress so that they can encourage you and act as cheerleaders.

If you make a mistake, do not give up.  The process of breaking old habits and creating newer healthier habits can take time.  With dedication, you can recover from any setback and continue your journey toward success.

Of course, these are just examples; there are as many possible New Year's resolutions as there are people.  What they have in common, is that they can all be achieved!
