How To Change a Skilsaw Blade

A skilsaw is a power tool that is mostly used in carpentry and other do it yourself activities. Due to continued use, the blade of the skilsaw will become less effective and less sharp. Because of this, you may have a hard time cutting through things with precision. When you find that your skilsaw is harder to use, you may need to change its blade. If you know how you can change the blade of your skilsaw on your own, you would not need to bring it to the carpentry shop to have it changed. You can just do it by yourself and save some money.

Here are the steps on how you can change the blade of a skilsaw:

Preparation. Before you change the blade of your skilsaw, make sure that it is turned off and not connected to the power supply. This is to avoid any accidents while you are handling the power tool. If you have just used the skilsaw, allow it to rest and cool for about fifteen minutes before you work with it.

Working with the skilsaw. Next, find a place where you can mount the skilsaw so that it will be easier for you to work with it. If you have a hanger for your tools that is mounted on the wall, you can hang your skilsaw and work on it there. Locate where the lock of the skilsaw is placed. You will also see an arbor nut that locks the blade of the skilsaw in place. Unscrew the arbor nut with your wrench and set it aside. When you do this, make sure that you support the blade so that it will not fall out.

Get your hex key (comes with your skilsaw) and use it to remove the other nuts that prevent you from getting the skilsaw blade out of its location. Remember to put all the nuts that you remove in a small container so that you will not lose them.

Installing the new blade. Now that you have removed the old blade, you can install the new one. Make sure that you get the right type of skilsaw blade for the model of skilsaw that you have. Insert the new blade in the skilsaw. When you do this, insert it with the teeth of the blade facing down. Screw all the nuts in place with your hex key and wrench and make sure that the blade is securely fastened in place. Trigger the lock on the skilsaw to put the blade back in place.

These are the easy steps on how you can change the blade of the skilsaw. The steps are really easy and once you try it, you will find that it is not hard to do at all. All you have to have is the right set of tools and the right type of saw that fits your skilsaw. When you handle the blade of the skilsaw, it is advisable that you do it with work gloves as even dull blades can cut through your skin.
