How To Naturally Unclog a Sink Drain

It’s not only disgusting but a real headache to have a clogged sink drain. You must have thought of calling a professional to fix this problem or maybe you have tried some odd methods to unclog your drain but to no avail. If using chemicals is the last option on your list, you surely have come to the right place. Below are some ways to unclog your sink drain without using any chemicals or hiring a professional plumber:

  1. Wire attack. This is one of the most common methods to clear a sink. Use a wire to push down the cause of clogging. Sometimes, a clogged sink is only because of some small particles that were accumulated and clogged the sink. A wire is already a good way to naturally remedy the clog. Use a plumber’s snake or plunger when the wire won’t work. The same strategy should be done and the same result will be achieved. These alternatives, however, will work best for clogs caused by left-over build-up in the sink drain.
  2. Dish soap plus boiling water. Another common cause of clogged sink drain is oil or grease. This natural way to clear sink drain will be very helpful for removing the grease that’s causing clogging. To use this, empty the basin first. This technique will not be helpful for a basin with water.  Deposit dish soap into the sink drain and follow that with some boiling water. The combined power of b oiling water and soap is a double-acting grease remover. Before doing this, you can try to resolve the clog by pouring boiling water in the sink drain. That will do for not-so-stubborn grease.
  3. Volcanic eruption effect. There will be a volcanic eruption effect when vinegar is combined with baking soda. Take advantage of this special combination to remedy and unclog your clogged sink drain. Pour down the sink drain half cup of baking soda, half cup of salt, and half cup of vinegar. Follow these ingredients with some boiling water and check if your sink is already unclogged.

If this will not work, you can use three-fourth cup of baking soda and half cup of vinegar. Put the baking soda first down the sink drain and follow that with the vinegar. Immediately cover the sink drain with a rag so that none of the mixture will escape. Wait for about half an hour before rinsing the drain with tap water.

Another version of this is to put half cup of baking soda, two teaspoons of salt, and a cup of vinegar to the sink drain. Immediately cover the sink drain and wait for at least half an hour before rinsing the sink drain with water.

Instead of baking soda and vinegar, you can use as an alternative the baking-soda-peroxide mixture. You’ll get the same effect with this.

It’s almost impossible that you can’t unclog your sink drain using these natural methods. If after using all these and your sink drain is still clogged, you can already try using commercial solutions. If nothing happens, better call a professional plumber. That will give the surest solution to your problem.
