How To Use Pigeon Control Products

Pigeon excretions deface many monuments and roofs. They also defile public places. The uric acid in their excretions can damage the finish of automobiles and buildings. They can also become a nuisance because of their loud squawks.

Different pigeon control products include the following:

  • Pigeon Spikes are used to prevent pigeons from landing and nesting on ledges, pipes, gutters, and other flat surfaces. They can be installed by nailing them down, using glue, or tying them with a rope.

  • Shock Track Systems produce a mild electric shock that changes the pigeon's habits. When shocked, the pigeon will move to another place to roost.

  • Bird Netting excludes all birds from infesting a certain area. Just cover the possible area of infestation with the netting to avoid pigeons getting into these areas.

  • Bird Wire is a post and wire system that makes an area unsuitable for birds to land or perch on.

  • Bird Slope is ideal for ledges, eaves, beams, and other 90-degree areas where birds rest. It covers the area with a diagonal slope, preventing pigeons and other birds from perching on the area.

  • Bird Deterrents are structures with rotating arms, which ward off pigeons and prevent them from landing on a specific area.

  • Bird Gel/Bird Repellent creates a sticky surface on the applied area, making birds avoid it. The repellent is administered with the help of a caulking gun.

  • Sound Deterrents scare pigeons away from landing in the affected area by playing a pigeon's distress call. It can be connected to more speakers to affect a larger area.

  • Pigeon Traps and Pigeon Motels trap pigeons inside, allowing them to be transported and released to another area.

  • Disinfectant is not a tool for eliminating pigeons, but is used to clean and disinfect areas where pigeons have nested and landed.

You can use a combination of different products to eliminate pigeons. Combining these steps is best to prevent and get rid of pigeons.

  • Prevent them from entering spaces so they cannot nest. Make sure that all ventilation areas are screened properly to avoid entry.

  • Use bird netting or bird wire on large openings or doors. If they do get inside, using a bird slope will discourage them from roosting on ledges or light fixtures. Using bird netting is also advised in large open areas such as barns and warehouses.

  • Use pigeon spikes on areas where you cannot place netting. Place these spikes on roofs, ledges, pipes and gutters outside the building.

  • Shock track systems can also be used in the same manner. Just place them in areas where pigeons can possibly land. Because they are virtually invisible to the pigeons, once the pigeon decides to land on the ledge, they will be shocked, forcing them to perch elsewhere.

  • Using bird repellent gel makes the applied surface sticky, thus pigeons will avoid the surface.

  • Using visual deterrents can scare pigeons away. They create a visual diversion that scares birds away from the area being protected.

  • Ultrasonic devices, which emit ultrasonic sounds that birds can hear, are recommended in dry docks, warehouses, sheds and overhangs. Audio deterrents, which play predator and bird distress calls, are useful in open areas such as orchards, vineyards and other areas where pest birds such as pigeons are a problem.
